Is Education a Business?

Is Education a Business?

The school fees of the suburb have been increased accordingly after the decision of increasing the school fees has been declared by the government.

As soon as the decision was passed the school fees has been increased from the new academic year 2009-10. Some schools have doubled there actual fees and some have increased there fees by 10% to 30%. The parents are suffering from a great deal of problems because of this situation.

When spoke to the principal if Model English High School Mrs. Prabha regarding this situation she said “ The unaided schools as to make use of the fees of the students for expenses right from the day to the maintenance of the school so they didn’t have any alternative as such.

The parent of a student from St. Jude’s school said that “The increase in fee is not justified in the time of recession when everybody is facing financial problems and people are becoming jobless while many are facing salary cuts," The parents are complaining that they have to pay rs 400 for a fifth standard student excluding the computer fee for rs 50 per month which was previously rs 275 and rs 25 respectively. The people are saying that it is very difficult for students from poor financial background to peruse education in this current scenario.

In the amidst of the period of recession and such a terrible hike in the school fees the parents are forced to believe to the statement that “Good teachers are costly, bad teachers cost more”
